Album Notes

Singer Tim Crane, A.K.A. T Bird, took just one year to assemble the band in Austin, where he’d heard the groove of real music issuing forth on Sixth Street. He brought together lead, rhythm and bass guitars; trombone and tenor and baritone saxophones; percussion; and a trio of backup singers — eleven members in all, a canvas for his chunky, soulful originals. In the year since, T Bird and the Breaks has taken the Austin music scene by storm: headlining at five of the city’s best-known venues including The Continental Club, placing second in the Best New Band category at the 2008 Austin Music Awards, and becoming the second-highest vote-getter and a finalist in the 2008 Austin City Limits “The Sound and the Jury” competition. In January 2009, the band will release LEARN ABOUT IT, which includes the Temptations-inspired “Two-Tone Cadillac,” the 100-proof “Blackberry Brandy,” the free-flowing “Juice” and the hot, sexy “Esmerelda.” In March, the band will showcase at the South By Southwest Music Festival. www.tbirdandthebreaks.com

Such a rare groove

I stumbled across T Bird on myspace, and was totally surprised. This dude knows his soul. FIrst I thought: oh hey, this is similar to Eli 'paperboy' reed, but this is much much grittier and raw. The sounds are very reminiscent of the great James Brown, but T Bird is no impersonator. He has enough style of his own to make this a cd worth buying. So if you like soul that comes from the heart, poured out with a rawness that stings like Blackberry Brandy, this is your Juice!
