Tom, Betty & Nathan Druckenmiller follow in a long tradition of family bands playing old-time music. Long before radio and recordings there was only one way to enjoy music, either you played for yourself or you listened to someone else play for you. Many family bands were formed to offer entertainment in the evenings and at dances and social engagements.
Tom, Betty & Nathan Druckenmiller draw their repertoire from those days and along with some contemporary selections have released their fifth CD Back Home.
Recorded live at Godfrey Daniels Coffeehouse in Bethlehem, PA and in their dining room in Allentown, PA, Back Home is a variegated collection of old-time fiddle tunes, and songs. Godfrey's is very much the Druckenmiller's second home as Tom began performing there 30 years ago and they host a monthly old-tim jam in addition to annual performances at this world-famed venue.
Selections on Back Home range from Bob Dylan's "Buckets of Rain" and Julie Miller's "Quecreek" to the Carter Family's "You've Been a Friend to Me" and "Answer Only With Your Eyes." Nathan's championship fiddling is featured on "The Old Drake/Shanghai" from West Virginia's Hammons Family and "Saddle Up the Grey" from the Carter Brothers and Son from Mississippi.
Betty is featured on "Chased Old Satan" from the Woodie Brothers and Tom's version of Uncle Dave Macon's "Wait 'til the Clouds Roll By" has been a crowd pleaser for many years.
It's been four years since Tom, Betty & Nathan last released a CD and much has happened in those years. Nathan has graduated from Kutztown (PA) University and has begun a luthery career and Betty and Tom have moved home to Tom's homeplace. They have also begun playing with bass player Stacy Bechtel from Bowers PA. She adds the essential bottom end as well as fine background vocals and even clarinet when necessary.
Back Home is a joyous collection of music from Tom, Betty & Nathan Druckenmiller. It's full of all the warmth associated with old-time family bands as well as rendering up some great firey fiddle tunes. Along with all that, the listener shares in all the excitement that can only come from playing live in a very comfortable environment.

Both CD's were great I really enjoyed the time I spent with them. I had a 2400 mile drive and the CD's really helped pass the time.
