Album Notes

TEA is a solo artist, a very solo artist. She constructs her songs out of a recording studio she built herself in San Francisco's Mission District. Here she writes all the songs, sings, plays all the instruments, produces, engineers and mixes. With a strong, evocative voice and unique slide guitar sound, TEA crafted a beautiful, emotionally grabbing pop album in late 1998.This self-titled debut inspired critics to say: "a lovely, soulful voice", "a dynamite and diverse CD", "full of brilliant songcraft and brawny guitar", "lush and perfectly understated".

TEA is quickly becoming a standout in the MP3/internet music world. Her song, Grace won "song of the week" on the Women of MP3 site and 10% was number five for weeks on the indie charts of the MP3 web site.Europe soon followed suit when Satellite received solid airplay in England, France and Spain due to the release of a London compilation by Abuse Records.

TEA became a finalist in the national Lilith Fair contest two years running, and was also featured in the KQED documentary "Strings Attached", about women guitar players which aired throughout the Spring and is playing the film festival circuit.

TEA spent most of 1999 working with MainMan (Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop). She went to London and shot videos, did a photoshoot with the legendary Mick Rock (Queen, Tori Amos, Bowie), and produced a young, all girl punk band.TEA also composed a soundtrack for the film, Drop, that played the international film festival circuit and on international TV.

Now she is back in SF finishing up her much-awaited second release.A few songs from the new album were released for preview on the MP3 site and have already been garnering much attention.

TEA has worked alongside such notable producers as Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith, Suzanne Vega, Soul Asylum) and Greg Hawkes (the Cars).TEA went on to achieve critical acclaim in the San Francisco club scene as a founding member of the band Her Majesty the Baby which was billed with such top-notch acts as P.J.Harvey, the Pixies, Cake, Fugazi, the Geraldine Fibbers, the Throwing Muses, the Proclaimers and the Flaming Lips.

TEA also won a songwriting award with HtMB at the Boston Music Awards, was nominated for best independent release (produced and mixed by TEA) at the BAMMIES (Bay Area Music Awards), and best rock act by the San Francisco Alternative Music Awards. Her Majesty the Baby's last album, Mary, charted on over 170 college radio stations across the country and won the New Music Challenge on KITS (Live 105).
Her Majesty the Baby has been reviewed in Spin, Billboard (Heatseeker), Entertainment Weekly, CMJ, San Francisco Chronicle, BAM, the Washington Post, Electronic Musician, The SF Weekly, The SF Bay Guardian, and many other publications across the country.

TEA has performed at such venues as the Fillmore, Slim's, Bimbo's, Transmission, Paradise, Union Square - Live 105, South By SouthWest, SPIN SXSW Party, etc.

With a lovely, soulful voice, brilliant songcraft, and brawny guitar, former Her Majesty the Baby frontwoman Terri Winston plays rich, textured, folk-tinged alt-rock in her solo project TEA and on her dynamite and diverse self-titled CD, on which she played all the instruments as well as produced, engineered, and mixed.

TEA is one of those lost diamonds you absolutely need to have in your collection as it's so perfect. I really have no idea how big TEA is in the states but it gives me the impression "Why do they send us Korn and Blink 182 when they have such talented artsists?". Terri we salute you....show us how good American sounds can be!
