Album Notes

A compilation of electronic music surging through the San Francisco Bay-Area. Unfamiliar Ceilings brings together an eclectic mix of artists and with them their complex sounds and inventive interpretations. The album invites you to listen to the talent of Katabatik artists, Nommo Ogo with their “Chthonic soundscapes and rhythms” and Topaapobwaii whose music has been best described as “the soundtrack for dissociative schizophrenia. “ The debut release from Tear also features Sote who represents Warp records as well as Octavius with a track from his new album ‘Audio Noir’ recently released by Mush. Octavius conveys his own distinct sound that ranges from subtle ambiance to explosive rage.

Also included are Tears artists Upside-down Umbrella whose purely entrancing textures create a delightful blend of electronic and acoustic sound, Sikl who can only be described as dark and perverse, and Proyecto Triste who manipulates abstract textures to create an elaborate blend of “ intoxicating sound”. Though the music as the title describes leads you into very different perspectives, Unfamiliar Ceilings melds together to produce a totally cohesive compilation that is a fitting introduction to the innovative Tear label.
