WHAT IS A TEDDY BOY? The name comes from the same "Teddy Boy" youth movement that found such devotees as John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison wearing winkle-picker boots, drain-pipe pants ("drainies"), slim-Jim ties, and modified, draped Edwardian coats (hence the name Teddy Boys or "Teds" for short). They were the teenagers with a passion for rock and roll, flaunting their look and their music in the face of adult society in the late l950's and early i960's . . . a movement that helped to form and define the music of the 60's in Liverpool, England. Taking the music that came from America to their port city in the form of Elvis Presley, Little Richard, The Shirelles, Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, and the great country and blues artists such as Chet Atkins, Chuck Berry, Elmore James and Carl Perkins, they reworked it into something new and different, and brought it back to America and the world as the great "British Invasion" of the l960's. THE TEDDY BOYS on this album are comprised of four members from England, Canada and America who've been-there and done-that during the original 60's invasion. Together once again and still sharing the same passion for this unique style of music, THE TEDDY BOYS are united by their desire to keep the flame burning on that musical torch they have carried through all these years.
