This is a fantastic offering from a newly formed HULL label from the North of England. Once again it shows us that the talent resides in the North of England and that Hull continues to be the foremost incubator of music artists since David Bowie parked his ambulance down spring bank west...Paul Cooke - P Eye Eye

If you don't know the aphex twin but u may have met his brother, and think that square pusher is someone who winds up rush hour commuters, this compilation could make a welcome introduction to music that veers away from the norm of harmonically stale verse chorus verse love songs. Whilst steering clear of the self indulgent excesses of some phonic perpetrators, these compositions simultaneously enchant and challenge the listener, presenting us with beauty that can at first seem cold and sterile, but whose internal logics become apparent after repeated listening. Drawing us in with crystalline digital textures and offsetting us with cardiac arrest rhythms, jacq sporadic reflects the inhuman splendour of broken glass, whilst u39c give us post modern soul redolent of Lamb and GoldFrapp. Klint Fostex provides the contrast by giving us a 70's jazz-lite interlude, whilst further one shot diversions are provided with the cut up experiments of Keith Bianchi and Rae Grebby. Proteus provide an audio presentation of mathematical progressions, whilst DXN's Warp influenced ambient landscapes give us pause for thought. Prize for most interesting name has to go to Mr Ralph Margins, whilst highlight of the compilation, in my estimation, has to be track 5; Plastic Carcus : 'Bring it out and play' where atonal, jerky drum and bass riffs duke it out with rapper Tim Hanson.
