Album Notes

The Tenpenny Travelers began as a ragged lot of musical geeks that performed together for dances and pub-sings at re-enactments and themed weddings in the Atlanta area. We were known as the King's Gate Consort in those days and we made our in-play home at the Two Crowns Tavern. Since then we have gone on to play the Georgia Renaissance Festival and other venues, and expanded our musical range.

Some of the songs on this CD were adapted from traditional tunes, but modified to experiment with combining different musical elements. Other songs have been changed to fit fictional settings. We offer our sincere thanks to our fellow players and the staff of King’s Gate for the inspiration and the encouragement along the way. This is for you guys!

The Tenpenny Travelers are:

Angela Lacey- vocals, bodhran, penny whistles, and miscellaneous percussion
Joy Lew- vocals, cello, tenor recorder
Tara Maurer- vocals, flute, soprano & alto recorder
Mike Quigley- vocals, guitar, mandolin
Ariel Stewart- vocals, clarinet.

Guest artists: Ed King – Whistling on Dapper Dan, Amy Cameron – flute on Horses Bransle

Recording/Mixing by Ed King, Far-a-field Studios

Quite good, I think I listened this 10 times which was too much and I grew tired of the tracks. Now that I was re-listening few of them I liked them again. Recommended if you like renaissance faire music.

If you are a fan of Renaissance Faire music, traditional European country folk music or bawdy bar songs, then this CD is well worth your money. The only music I have found better is hearing the group live!

If you like songs that are traditional but new, then this is a great choice! Some are funny, some are sad, but there wasn't one I didn't like.

A Definite Must!

It's got something for everyone, from peppy pub songs to intense instrumentals. None of the music is easy, but they sure make it look that way! These folks challenge you to listen, and reward you in the best way - with music that will live in your thoughts. What's that I'm humming? Oh - it's Dapper Dan!
