Album Notes

MAC, Bistro, and OutMusic Award-winning New York City nightclub singer/comedian Terese Genecco has been a monthly headliner at The Iridium Jazz Club in the Longest Running Nightclub Act on Broadway. Normally performing with high-energy, horns-wailing, conga rhythms jumping and a two-drink minimum/two-ballad maximum, take-no-prisoners approach accompanied by her 8-piece swinging *little big band,* Genecco actually entered the recording studio last summer to create something completely different.

Co-written by Maria Gentile (words & music) and Caren Cole (music,) "If I Was A Boy" is an anthem for marriage equality, gender-identity, and self-acceptance. In this beautiful ballad, you will hear Genecco's lush and passionate vocals accompanied by the classical and electric guitar work of Windham Hill/Sony/BMI recording artist Sean Harkness, who also contributes on electric bass. New York City drummer Joe Abba adds the finishing touches to add emphasis and urgency. This is Genecco at her most vulnerable, searching for love and acceptance, in a lyrical and powerful song that tears at the heart strings and asks an important question.

This track was recorded in May and August 2010 at Midtown Sound in New York City. It was engineered and mixed by Scott Noll and produced by Shaynee Rainbolt and Scott Noll. Arrangement by Terese Genecco and Sean Harkness.
