Album Notes

Fans of Steely Dan, Sting, Joe Jackson, John Mayer, Ben Folds, and anyone who loves finely crafted, jazz-influenced rock, will enjoy Terramara. This keyboard-centered Minneapolis four-piece melds smart songcraft with catchy melodies, and lush harmonies.

This self-titled first album is a tuneful collection of pop-rock gems. The songs are built to last and multi-layered, always offering something new wtih each listen. These ten tracks are filled with soulful grooves, fresh harmonic twists and turns, and a edgy rock sensibility.

The album was recorded at Pachyderm Studios in Canon Falls, Minnesota, and produced by Ken Chastain (Greazy Meal, Flipp, Honeydogs). It was first released on the independent label Redhead Producitons in late 2000.

In March 2005, Minneapolis band Terramara released its second CD, Four Blocks To Hennepin. This collection of 13 new songs is a natural extension of their first record, with plenty of catchy melodies and welll-crafted pop gems, but with a fuller, more developed sound. Fans of Steely Dan, Sting, Joe Jackson and Ben Folds will enjoy this jazzy, harmonically adventurous set of tunes,

The new record was recorded at The Terrarium in Minneapolis, produced by Ken Chastain (Greazy Meal, Flipp, Beat The Clock) and mixed and mastered by Rob Genadek (Peter Himmelman, Keri Noble).

The band is offering two free songs in MP3 format from their website,
along with audio samples of all the songs on the new album. Both Terramara albums are also available on http://www.cdbaby.com, and http://www.amazon.com. The whole album will soon be downloadable on itunes and other major online music services.

An official CD release show is scheduled for later in the spring in Minneapolis, with a college radio campaign from March to May. The band will be promoting the CD with a series of live shows mostly in Minneapolis area starting in May.

BIO

Terramara formed in Minneapolis in 1998 around Rob Meany, lead vocalist, songwriter and keyboard player. Although the line-up has changed over the years, the group has been consistently performed as a four piece of bass, drums, guitar and keyboards.

In 2000, the band recorded and released their first album, a self-titled CD produced by Ken Chastain (Greazy Meal, Flipp, Beat The Clock), and recorded at Pachyderm Studios in Canon Falls, Minnesota. The CD was released on their own label, Redhead Productions. The album enjoyed solid local support of radio and press and established Terramara as a unique sound on the scene. Some critics compared them to rock giants such as Sting and Steely Dan.

Terramara has played extensively in Minnesota, performing regularly at major outdoor music festivals such as the Taste of Minnesota and the Festival of the Heart & Soul, as well as many of Minneapolis' most respected music clubs.

In 2002, the band recorded a single called Invisible People, to be included in the soundtrack to an independent film, Revisions.

In 2003, the band was recognized as one of the top 15 artists in the Midwest by DiscMakers Independent Music World Series. In the contest, screened by Billboard and TAXI, Terramara's "Jaded Little Love Song" was selected from over 1200 submissions for inclusion on DiscMaker's compilation CD.

Also in 2003, Terramara's song, "Summer's End", was selected as a top ten finalist from over 300 submissions in a Demo Review Panel & Contest sponsored by NARAS (Grammys) and ASCAP in Minneapolis.

In September 2003, Terramara went back into the studio to record their follow-up album, Four Blocks To Hennepin. As these things often go, the recording took twice as long as planned. Almost 18 months later, the new CD was finally released. Check for the latest news on the Terramara website.

Absolutely Terrific!
author: Fan from San Diego
I recently bought Terramara's debut CD. Being from San Diego, I've never heard of these guys, and just stumbled across it while checking out CDs at CD Baby (I think under the search of bands that Steely Dan fans would like). I am moved to write because I cannot stop playing this CD; it is absolutely terrific. I never play a CD over and over, but I have done that with this one. The songwriting is great, with wonderful little twists and turns in the chord progressions. What most impresses me is how first-rate the production sounds, for what I'm sure was a shoe-string budget project. I saw on the Terramara website that a second cd is in the works, and I will be anxiously looking forward to it. Keep up the good work.

Jazz influenced Rock lives!
author: Ira Rosen
It's been a long time since I've heard a CD that lives up to the standards of Chicago Transit Authority, Traffic, and (yes) Steely Dan (take this as high praise coming from a guy with daughters named Rikki and Josie). Most "fusion" of the recent past has moved toward mediocre, soulless tripe - Terramara has given me hope that the genre can be revived to the point that it was in the early to mid seventies. This is not to say that the music isn't fresh - on the contrary - it'll blow the cobwebs out of your speakers and AOR tortured ears. It's averaging a play a day in our home now. Best comment that I've heard was my brother who mused that it sounded as if a young Steve Winwood was singing lead. You cannot go wrong with this CD! Terramara - kudos on a job well done.
