Album Notes

"There's something going on here, something different and real that sticks. Remarkable... equal to that of a young Joni Mitchell." - L.A. WEEKLY

Upon it's release, CRUEL, Terran's debut record, was considered by many critics to be one of the best albums released in 1997, establishing her as one of the most original and inspirational singer/songwriters to come out in years. 'Cruel' was produced by Jennifer and co-produced on some songs by Julie Last (Joni Mitchell, Ricki Lee Jones, John Lennon).

PRESS QUOTES...

"Terran has a unique musical gift. With her words as well as her music, she conveys a mixture of grace and rage, which is at times unsettling. However, it is this strange juxtapostion of moods that makes Terran's work so powerful. And on that warm July night in West Hollywod, Terran proved once again that she has become a force to be reckoned with." - CAMPUS CIRCLE

"Jennifer's range, tone and passionate approach make evenings with her unforgettable. Her stories ache beautifully and offer a map to our lost emotional geography. She shines."- THE INDEPENDENT

"Terran does the Tori Amos/Paula Cole acoustic piano, philosophical, tortured-chick thing - but without the drama, the shrieking or the pretense."* (Four Stars) - BUZZ MAGAZINE

"If Amos and Cole can be a hit, this certainly can as well." MUSIC CONNECTION

"Terran's voice is both structured and soulful…and each song is more joyfully painful than the last…"
WHOLE LIFE TIMES

"Jennifer Terran is a musician that follows no rules. Cruel is the debut effort by this Santa Barbara based artist, and it is a damn fine display of creative freedom at its best. Listening to Cruel was an orgasmic auditory experience."- THE FISH RAP LIVE

"You know what's scary about singing? It comes directly out of a person, which implies that it directly represents that person. Hardly anybody has enough guts to do that… Jennifer Terran sounds as if her singing might be herself…Terran happens to possess a remarkable soprano, and a level of control equal to that of a young Joni Mitchell." - LA WEEKLY

"Endowed with a voice or heartbreaking purity and with a melodic talent, Jennifer Terran will most likely rise rapidly to the level of the greats."
TELARAMA (Paris, France)

"Breathtaking... timeless... pure... monumental.... Categorizing Jennifer Terran is impossible. Terran is a style of her own."
OOR MAGAZINE - (Netherlands)

"Haunting and intense, she sounds like a rawer version of Tori Amos. But Terran possesses a uniquely fierce and uncommon uncompromising voice"
UNCUT - (London, UK)

"Jennifer Terran is an unusual, very unusual kind of artist and quite a woman! A truly magnificent Film Noire Diva and a world-class songwriter-singer. This woman is unique, captivating vocalist, pianist, tenderly rebellious songwriter, producer by raison d'etre and necessity, hip-hop dynamic instructor and dancer, story-teller, an existentialist philosopher, an emotionally and intellectually charged teaser and provocative presence and most certainly a daring-devil entrepreneur."
HERALD TIMES PARADE - (London, UK)

"If Jennifer Terran has a voice as much incomparable as unforgettable, it is because she is also that in real life. Her authentic and sensual voice awakes up in us emotions so deep inside that thinking of it makes nearly crying of pain or joy, as if truth had a price."
MURMURES - (Switzerland)

"At some point Tori Amos had that same gift, but in the meantime she has become a phenomena... Let's hope that Jennifer Terran will never become world famous."
PLATOMANIA - (Netherlands)

"The music of Jennifer Terran is so beautiful it hurts."
CULTURE - (Netherlands)
