HEY! WAIT! BEFORE YOU BUY THIS ONE, I HIGHLY SUGGEST GOING TO MY WEBSITE AND CHECKING OUT MY NEW STUFF (http://terranaomi.com/fans.html and you can listen on the site, too)...NOT THAT THIS ISN'T A COOL CD - IT IS - BUT IT'S KINDA OLD. THAT BEING SAID, THERE ARE ONLY A FEW COPIES LEFT FOR SALE OUT OF THE INITIAL 3000 AND WHEN THEY'RE GONE I'M NOT PRINTING MORE. BUT I'M JUST SAYING - THE NEW STUFF IS BETTER. THERE. IT'S SAID.

OK - READ ON -

I was conceived sometime in the month of September in Missoula, Montana during a cross-country road trip. I would like to say that my parents carefully planned the event, had an attachment to Missoula, picked the music, created the mood, readied themselves to bring a new life into this world, but in reality, a condom broke.

Following a fairly unexceptional geeky art and music-filled, rejection-driven high school experience, I went off to the University of Michigan to study classical voice. Whereas high school was not what you might call a real social Mecca for me, I had been told that college would be different. It was true -- once there, I was finally able to find people with similar interests - namely loud music, drug use, and general self-destruction.

Needless to say, college was a blur, but I did learn one thing: I did not want to be a classical musician.

After graduation and a short period dedicated to getting to know my parents as the people they really are (read: moving home with Mom and Dad), I decided to go to New York City to explore the option of rock stardom. I picked up a guitar and wrote songs, played at clubs throughout the East Village, and subsequently pursued my other dream of becoming a waitress. The waitressing went well, with the exception of a few spills here and there and one unfortunate incident involving a plate of chicken curry and a designer handbag. After absorbing everything the service industry had to offer, I hit the road and booked a national tour. This resulted in high gas and mechanic bills and an offer to move out to Los Angeles to work with acclaimed producer Paul Fox. So here I am now, a successful screenwriter. (not really)

Here are some facts that seem to be included in most of the musician biographies I read:

Some musical influences: Joni Mitchell, Elliott Smith, Patty Griffin, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Radiohead, James Taylor, Aimee Mann, Carole King, Lucinda Williams, Elton John, Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker, Nirvana.

Some achievements: Toured Europe as a choir soloist when I was 17, sang in the Aspen Music Festival when I was 20, they tell me I graduated with honors from U of M, played in the 2001 CMJ music festival, the 2002 Midwest Music Summit, and the 2002 Bumbershoot festival in Seattle (that was really cool), booked a 20+ date summer tour in 2002 including a performance at the Bluebird Café in Nashville, Independent Songwriter Webzine's March 2002 "Featured Artist," Performing Songwriter Magazine's "Top 12 DIY Releases" for December 2002, featured in Dirty Linen Magazine, Indie-music.com and Indiecrit.com. I also sang on Secret underarm deodorant commercials for cash.

I now live in Los Angeles where I write songs, practice guitar and piano, go to shows, and play in the sunshine. I look forward to my first boob job and the subtle yet lasting personality changes that occur as a result of living in such a vacuous city.

I love the songs. All of them are good. Some of them I can relate to. I could listen to it over and over.

  • Amazing.
    author: Megan

There aren't a whole lot of cd's that when I listen to them, I really feel something...BUT...Terra deffinately does it. And then some. I can't stop listening to it! It's beautiful in every aspect. Thank you sooo much for what you do. It's difficult to make such wonderful music...and you do. Thank you! You're amazing.

  • This cd needs no qualifiers before the word "great", such as "great first effort..great debut cd". It is a great cd, period. Terra sings and writes "from the heart" -- that's an often overused phrase, but it really applies to her in spades. This album, in contrast to Terra's EP (in which some songs are done with full band) features Terra's great, emotional voice with guitar accompaniment. It is pure Terra, pure treasure. Terra has the rare writing ability to cut to the quick with a single phrase and that talent is amply displayed on this album. There are not many copies of this cd still available and when they're gone, they're gone. Pick up a copy while you still can -- you definitely won't be sorry!

  • Awesome songs, great voice, and incredible instrument playing.
    author: Scott

Each song on this CD kicks serious behind. The guitar in track one mixed with terras voice gives off a very serious feeling. Sunday's Best lyrics sung by terra can bring a chill to the bones of anyperson. Each track has similar effects and is special in its own way, but one thing is for sure, all are great and terra has what it takes to become someone great in the music world.

  • got here in one piece

the cd was packaged nicely and it got here in one piece!!

  • Impressive first effort
    author: Brian M.

Terra's freshman CD shows evidence of a great writer/singer in the process of becoming... well... great. She's not there yet, but she might be someday. Each track feels like it just needs a little more polishing, yet her work is already above and beyond most of her peers. To those not sure if they would like Terra's work, she can be approximated as a cross between early Sheryl Crow and Fiona Apple. Overall, a very worthy purchase.

  • This CD is AMAZING!!

This is one of the finest CDs in my collection. I highly recommend that anyone and everyone buys this CD.

  • That CD is the best EVER!!!
    author: Cath

What can I say about thise album other than it rocks and anybody who buys it will find something they like in it? The tracks on this CD contain amazing lyrics, great vocals, fantastic melodies and also, something in every single song that you can identify to. Terra always seems to get the right word to express what everybody feels, but can never say. This CD proves she's one of the great artists of tomorrow, somebody whose name won't be forgotten easily!

  • you'd be silly to not buy this cd...

I have owned this CD for a couple of years now, and keep going back to it time and time again. Although my tastes in music are varied, From Elvis Presley to Eminem, Terra is an artist who deserves to be heard by everyone. Sung with a clear voice, her heartfelt songs can't help but get to you. Do yourself a favour, buy this CD, you wont regret it. Cheers, Dave

  • she is absolutely the "BEST" voice from the heart ,ever............
    author: don lee

clarity, spirit, moving, soulful, finished articulation, gets into your mind and makes your emotions flood, has THAT SOUND that history of music listening can only tell you this is going places. now only waiting to be discovered by the Big World. come on people, let's give this work-of-art our attention.

  • it'll keep you warm on cold nights
    author: tina

this is the sort of record you'd listen to sipping some coffee and just listening. by listening i mean feeling every chord, word, and note that flows out of her. if you want to feel someone else just for a moment this is the record for you. this record doesn't do her live performance any justice because she plays piano AND guitar. music like her's makes you remember that there is still substance in music today and appreciate that not all guitar players write and sound like michelle branch.

  • Awesome!
    author: fish

Wow! Awesome CD! My English is quite bad, so I keep it short: Order and enjoy! Love her!

  • A gem waiting to be discovered!
    author: Jane

This CD is a gem waiting to be discovered. 7 beautiful songs set against a backdrop of Terra’s crystal clear voice and acoustic guitar. No bells, no whistles, just honest to goodness songwriting talent which will have you hooked. These songs are honest and powerful, Terra really pours her heart into every line and her sense of melody is second to none. I would describe Terra’s style as being closest to a “Living With Ghosts” era Patty Griffin, though she has created a very definite sound of her own. Terra holds her own with any of the female singer / songwriters out there today, and if you like artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Dar Williams and Joni Mitchell then I would encourage you to get this CD, I can assure you it will not disappoint.

As an avid listener of music, I check out CD Baby for new independent artists all the time. The reason for this is simple - mainstream music sucks bigtime, bands these days are just clones of each other. Anyway, I am glad to have discovered Terra Naomi, her music is breathtakingly beautiful...just listen to Flesh for Bones if you dont believe me. She has the kind of voice that's soft & quiet as a tomb, yet strong and passionate. Mainstream music could never (and I stress the word "never") sound this good. Her vocals can be compared to other singers while listening to Terra's cd, but she holds her own ground, and has a style all her own. These stripped down, acoustic gems soothe the soul. I would love to hear how Terra sounds backed by a full band - I'm sure it would rock! :) So if you are in dire need of new music, I suggest you buy Terra Naomi's cd, you wont regret it. I have been spinning my copy quite frequently, and will definitely purchase future cds that she distributes.

  • crafting the life you someday hoped would come together as a work of art...
    author: Laurel

This cd has a more modern edge than typical folk music. Terra did a beautiful job of blending blues, folk, and great songwriting. She has a gripping voice that urns to find comfort and a comforting voice that makes you feel like crying. This cd is a clear view of the next generation of folk singers who have learned from artists like Nanci Griffith, Dar Williams, and Sarah McLauchlan. I would recommend this to any fans of these artists as well as Susan Tedeschi and Patty Griffin. Give this to your best girlfriend with a candle and bubble bath. She will love you for it.

  • Folky stuff isn't really my bag, but I like this.
    author: J.Charles

While I try to listen to all types of music, the folky style of this CD really isn't one that I am usually interested in. But, I really like this CD. The mellow and unaccompanied vibe on this record plays only a small role in comparison to the heart and soul put forth by Terra's performance on it. I suppose the rock 'n roll-esque simplicity and emotive power of these seven songs allow radio rock listeners like myself to "get it". Every track is a winner, with strong hooks and great melodies. It's easily the best ten dollars I've spent on music in a while, and worth every penny, if not more. The only downside is the fact that after listening to this disc, I want to hear more. I look forward to Terra's next release, and if I'm lucky, maybe she will do a couple of tunes with a full band.

  • An extremely talented and gifted artist and an absolutely phenomenal CD
    author: John Butchko

If you’re tired of vapid, over-produced music that “speaks, but yet says nothing,” then buy this CD immediately and play it often and repeatedly. A welcome and extremely satisfying departure from the pablum incessantly played on contemporary radio, Terra Naomi’s eponymously titled CD is a stunning collection of seven beautifully written acoustic songs, each of which is performed with a fiery sense of passion and urgency. From the CD’s opening track (“So Nice”) to the last note of the concluding track (“Mama”), her music and intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics immediately grab the listener and take them on a roller-coaster ride through a myriad of emotions, situations, and musical styles. Further, while her musical influences are indeed evident, she has (unlike others less talented) overcome the anxiety of those influences and created work distinctively unique and original. A NY-based singer-songwriter-guitarist who’s currently preparing to embark on a summer tour out West to Seattle, Terra Naomi states in her bio that she started writing “out of necessity” and as a means of “sharing my experiences and connecting with a broader range of people.” Such sentiments are immediately apparent in both the songs themselves, as well as the CD’s uncluttered recording and production approach (effectively handled by recording engineer Chris Bertolotti). Armed only with her soulful, expressive voice and an acoustic guitar, the CD has a very intimate, personal and “live” quality to it—one can easily visualize her performing onstage, connecting with her audience and feeding off their energy. In summation: an extremely talented and gifted artist and an absolutely phenomenal CD that should definitely be part of your collection. What more really needs to be said?
