Welcome to "Ra's Fire pt.I:The Invocation".On part one of this epic trilogy,we set out to invoke the spirit of Ra (egyptian god of gods) along the ecliptic path as we traverse. The first song "Invocation" is an "Afro-Bolero"melody in 3/4 time written in AABA form in E minor. After Ra has risen, his first stop is the constellation "Libra" also known as "scales".Libra is a medium uptempo swinger written in the style of Clifford Brown's "Daahoud" and John Coltrane's "Giant Steps" also written in AABA form and centers around C minor. As Ra departs "Libra" he leads us to the "Scorpio"constellation known to many as "Scorpious" or "The Great Scorpion"! "Scorpio" is an energetic piece based on 5/5/1 theory instead of 2/5/1 as you can hear in the pedal point harmonies of the melody, I call it "Base-Five Improvisation & Composition".The form is A1-A2-B-A1.Now after our journey, we reach "Ra's Fire"."Ra's Fire" is a B minor-modal blues in 6/8 with a bridge, and rubato sections at the start and the finish.I did away with 2/5/1 for this song which gives it an interesting sound. The song "Libra" appears again but only as an "ALTERNATE TAKE".I hope you enjoy this recording & be on the lookout for "Ra's Fire pt.II:Ra vs Apep"coming in 2010.
