My daughter Terri Thurman Finck, artist and co-writer with me, performs this song. We have received very high and enthusiastic responses from children (ages 7 thru 12) and from adults for this new song. We hope it inspires people to read up on grizzly bears, especially in Montana and in Glacier National Park. We turned this song into a humorous, imaginative song, but it is truly based on a real event in Bigfork, Montana.
We are excited about our newest album too, Galliump! Around the World, songs from which have won several national awards. We are currently recording a fifth album which will contain several songs created by me (Pat) while in the Galapagos Islands, as well as numerous other songs about interesting animals and in believing in yourself. Two new songs will soon be added as singles, "Whale Dance" (based on true event in Galapagos) and "Sailing on the Samba" (also Galapagos song). Terri's husband Josh Finck recorded these last two songs, assisted by sound engineer Clay Smith. We are very excited about these two songs and hope to add them to our "singles" very soon.
Terri and I frequently perform interactive music shows for schools, libraries, and various child-centered events. Children's obvious enthusiasm and positive responses keep us going! We hope to perform "Dairy Queen Bear" and other new songs for schools in Montana in the future.
We also co-teach teacher workshops through Willamette University, Salem, Oregon, titled "Fun Children's Music Activities for Classroom or Music Room". Many classroom teachers who must teach their own music take the class, as well as music specialists looking for new ideas. Graduate credit may be earned for the class.
