Album Notes

Hats! It’s all about wearing different hats. Songwriter Terry Gomes invites you to wear many, all on one CD, just like an iPod shuffle. Try on a few Stetsons, a sun hat, a sailing cap, a sombrero, and more. You get the idea. Different hats, different styles. So tap your toes to a country tune with your tongue planted firmly in cheek, contemplate a personal search for truth with a folk-style melody, rock to the self-delusion of the ultimate consumer, embark on a ballad across dark waters, follow a smitten man in his calypso-pop quest for a “true” love, soak up the Latin moods of a Mexican cantina. Different hats with Terry Gomes. Try them on for size!

Think of a concert that featured Alan Jackson with Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, Shania Twain and Kate Bush performing their own kind of songs, Paul Simon contributing the odd thought-provoking story, and Jesse Cook stopping by to stretch the guitar strings-all at the same time. Sound good? That's what it feels like to hear Gomesongs Side B, the second commercially-available compilation CD from Canadian songwriter and guitarist, Terry Gomes.

For several years, Terry wrote, arranged, produced, and performed songs that he submitted to American publishers. For many of these, he hired local artists, both male and female, to sing, but he performed all instrumental parts himself-except for percussion. That was the job for Roy Nichol at Dream Builders Studio in Cornwall, Ontario, where the CD was professionally mixed.

When publishers asked Terry to sign on the dotted line, he knew that publication was only the beginning: he wanted to go further, to create his own commercial CDs. Here's the latest result, a handful of his best early songs, ready to go: Gomesongs Side B.

And don’t forget, “Gomesongs Side A” is also available right here on CD Baby.
