ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Tess Dunn is an inspiring singer songwriter with an alternative sound, whose raspy vocals and mature piano compositions transcend her years. An advocate for those with cystic fibrosis, Tess has been referred to in the media as “the young and the fearless...whose lyrics delve into deeper and darker spaces than the pop stars of her time.” She recently released her first CD, “Darling Just Walk,” which was recorded in Los Angeles with the participation of a host of internationally recorded musicians.

Some interesting facts about me:

I have cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and epilepsy. I'm different.

My favorite color is black. Yes, I consider it a color. And don't get me started on hair dye.

I will never reach five feet, and I am proud! I love being short.

I hated my voice. People made fun of it. That was 4 years ago - look at how things change.

I won't change for anybody, ever. I am who I am for a reason.

Darling Just Walk
As pure a debut as I've heard since the early stages of Brandi Carlisle, Vanessa Carlton, Tegan & Sarah and a whole host of others. I saw Tess perform at the San Francisco stop of the Warped Tour and I was captivated (in full disclosure - I thought at first I thought I was at the stage where Meg & Dia were to perform!). Tess Dunn has crafted an EP deserving of heartfelt praise and genuine artistry.

Darling Just Walk
Tess' music is great! She kind of reminds me of a young Tori Amos. She has that same charisma you feel when listening to Tori Amos. You know that she really means what she's singing, and it really comes through when you hear the emotion in her voice. That is something that is missing in a lot music (in my opinion), and only a few artists can really convey that (besides Tori Amos, Eddie Vedder comes to mind).
Most of the songs are piano and vocals with some guitar melodies, drums, and a few other instruments thrown in to spice things up. But the real focus is Tess' piano, voice, and her wonderfully expressive lyrics. Which is just fine by me because they are all great!! There's no reason to overproduce when the building blocks can stand so powerfully on their own.
I can't say enough how much I really enjoy her voice. It's very dynamic, ranging from low, raspy tones to very impressive high notes that literally sent chills down my spine the first time I heard them. The last minute of Silent Conversations when she really uses the full range of her voice is my favorite piece of new music I've heard this year.
Please support this wonderful new artist!

Tess Dunn writes beautiful, catchy, feisty songs. You won't be able to get them out of you head but you won't mind at all. These songs and Tess' amazing energy blew me away live and I am thrilled that the recordings are just as wonderful as her live performances. This is a great debut and an album and artist that are well worth supporting.
