If this is your thing, here is your man. I opened for this fine, gristled, griot in the early 80's, & he drinks now smooth like a fine vintage. Mr F, the howl of truth, rings from a deep place (listen close, grasshopper). A deep fine bass-not-a-bass from the august Mr Roper (hail the mighty wind). Dark allure. This music cannot sit comfortably in any genre. The music is a thrift shop of strange sounds and pungent lyric images. Tuba, percussion, (no bass) and Tex's own scratchy tumbleweed lead guitar seduce you into a transplanted world of found beauty and hedonist spirituality marooned in Lost Angeles smoggy urban landscape. Like an organism so fragile it can only live at the bottom of the Antarctic ocean, the art of Tex Townes can only be viewed by those who seek it.
