Album Notes

Imagine the Beatles meeting They Might Be Giants and Syd Barrett for drinks at Mose Allison's Bar...or the bands of the Nuggets Collections in a friendly Demolition Derby...the Flexible Flyers are sort of like that. Formed by Dr. Toddzilla (Todd Perkins), A-list bassist for Madcat Ruth, Snooky Pryor, Big Dave & the Ultrasonics and Michael Katon, The Flyers reflect his intense love of classic 60's Psychedelic Rock and his own eclectic background. Onstage at the young age of 14, Todd had a varied and checkered career in the 60's and 70's, playing first with the Avant-Garde Shultz Food Band (a Performance Art troupe that at first actually played food), then diving into multi-media experimental installation pieces, working briefly as the light-show artist with the MC5, then studying sitar and performing with the Krishna Society's traveling ensemble throughout the Midwest. A fascination with Psychedelics sidelined him in neuropsychiatric institutions for some years in the 70's until he emerged again, studying Classical and Jazz music at Washtenaw College and the University Of Michigan.
Todd spent the next two decades playing with some of the best Blues, Rock and R&B players on the planet, all the while writing his own decidedly eccentric songs. His bibliography of work on CD for other musicians projects is well-documented on his website at www.drtoddzilla.com. In 1999 he released his first solo project, "My Whole Life" on his own Reptile House Records label. He formed the Flexible Flyers in 2003 as a project band with members of Underground heros The Buzzrats and other luminaries of the Detroit/SE Michigan scene. "Church Of Dreams" is their first CD.
