The Future King Of Scotland

I'm Not Angry, It's Just You Broke My Heart

NOT Fife one-man band King Creosote but a Fife one-man band called The Future King of Scotland.

Confused? Don't be, there's enough space in the Kingdom for two kings.

The album, on DIY record label Lo-Fi or What, opens with a microphone being switched on, a piano tested and the immortal words "Is that on?" You just know you're in for something special.

First song 0-12 yrs is a musical call to battle which blends into the folk ache of Born Unbroken.

The mystery pretender continues the age theme with 13-17 yrs and 18-26 yrs which get gradually calmer. Between them is the rockabilly break-up of The Girl Who Walks Over Glass, the gorgeous Don't Be Evil, the new-wave beats meets folk of Existence Is Bliss. The lyrics are poignant.

"Steal your mother's ciggies/and go smoking down the shops" from Fife Is A Kingdom Part 2 is spot-on about growing up in Scotland.

This is one incredible album.
