The Future Shape Of Sound debut album Mad DNA Mud is a mixture of psychedelic Blues, Bowler Hats and 60s hiphop.
It is: Space Age Gangster Soul!
Alex McGowan is the main writer, producer and instrumentalist on their free-styling, retrotastic debut album 'Mad DNA Mud'. As well as an extended family of like-minded musicians, the main conspirator in the group is singer/rapper/writer Big Daddy Kai. For the album Alex employed the talents of singer/rapper/street diva Nomtai, singer songwriter, producer Justin Stones, up&coming singer songwriter Nuwella, future blues legend Son Of Dave (ex-Crash Test Dummies) and the legendary Earl Okin. Along with a close circle of musician friends, they have created a musical universe where anything is possible.
You may recognise Alex name from his work co-writing/co-producing Martina Topley Bird's album Quixotic, which was nominated for a Mercury Music Prize in 2003. Tracks from this album were used all over the world by TV programs such as CSI Miami, C4s Pleasureland and in ads for Toyota and Kenzo. Quixotic was also released in the US in July 2004 on Chris Blackwells Palm Pictures.
Most recently, footstomping, beatboxing harmonica man Son Of Dave employed Alex' production skills to produce his album "02" released Feb 2006. In addition, multi instrumentalist, engineer & songwriter Alex has worked with Tricky, Josh Homme (QOTSA), Stewart Copeland, JJ Jecalik (Art Of Noise) and Duncan Bridgeman (1 Giant Leap). He has also achieved a good measure of success through his previous band The Starseeds with two critically acclaimed albums There Is Enough For Everyone and Parallel Life the title track from which has been used by cult TV show Six Feet Under.

The Martians have landed...Oh, Behave!!
author: Pamela Torres
Ever wish for a unique piece of musical craftmanship that can change colors like a mood ring? Well, come on board the mod squad mothership and get ready for a sonic acid time warp courtesy of The Future Shape of Sound, a super group of artists who have concocted a tripped out debut album in an electronic galaxy of flower power and platforms.
The Future troupe consists of many members, among them Alex McGowan, Earl Okin, Nuwella, Big Daddy Kai, Nomtai, and Son of Dave (formerly of the Crash Test Dummies!). The first track, "TFSOS Poem," is a scrumdelicious milky way mix of old school hip hop and supernova funk. "Doomed" can be best described as a brooding and heartbroken sample of what I'd like to call reg-goth (think what would happen if The Beatles collaborated with Jim Morrison and Bob Marley). The album's title track, "Mad DNA Mud," is a groovy go-go dance craze of booty shaking retro-rock and rap lyrics. "Move On" is a lonesome and gritty slice of roadside harmonica blues. "As Soon as I C U" is a seductive stalker tune of crime noir acoustic jazz. "Space Age Gangster Soul," "Space Aged Out," and the instrumental "11:59" are all funkadelic fever tunes for the dance floor while "Diet" and "Silence" both grinningly leave a question mark (?). Last but not least, the "Mad DNA's" final track, "Sad These Rest," can be a background for the closing credits of a yet-to-be-made spy thriller.
For anyone who is sick and tired of the same old songs being numbly played on the radio in today's capitalist 9-to-5 society, "Mad DNA" is worth buying (especially since it's on sale here on this website!). Best to be listened to before an Austin Powers or James Bond marathon.

super groovy retro 70's fender rhodes sound

The Future Shape Of Sound
These cats call themselves Alex McGowan (git, vox), production,Big Daddy Kai (vox), Nomtai (vox),Justin Stones (bass) and Laura Fares (drums).are taking this super groovy retro 70's fender rhodes sound and morphing it into....the future. All we can say is it may well be the future.
These freaky mofos are definitely into a totally cool and unique sound that just is fun to listen to. Like if you took some dudes from the year 2100 and threw them into a 70's studio for a few weeks, this is what they would sound like. It sounds good. Take a tour of their site....it's pretty fun. My favorite is doomed. Michelles favorite was also doomed. The beginning of TFSOS Poem gives you a real good flavor for the energy were dealing with.
