Album Notes
The beauty of Hip-Hop is that… if you got something to say, Hip-Hop will listen to you. If you got no one around you… Hip-Hop is there for you. F!ck it, if all you want to do is party… Hip-Hop is ready to bump. Thad Reid seems to encompass all of these avenues, an MC who prides himself on being diverse and well rounded. At the age of 27, Thad Reid is already a decorated rap veteran. He has dealt with personal tragedy and the constant struggles of „the come-up“. Hailing from the land of Virginia, Thad is already accustomed to being the underdog, but he has used that status to take all by surprise. Trials and tribulations, like these, have brought lesser men down. But Thad Reid has no time to look back, the future is bright. The industry is flooded with rappers, but there is always room for an MC. There is always room for songwriters, people who take their art to a new level. And just when you thought you have the South pegged, you hear a voice different from the rest, that voice is Thad Reid. Upon listening to Reid’s demo, you kind of get the feeling that he has something he wants to get off his chest. Long before Kanye West’s “Through the Wire”, Reid experienced an automobile tragedy of his own when he fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed his vehicle into a nearby guardrail. Although he made it out of the truck virtually unscathed, the same could not be said for the two friends that were with him, both of whom were burned to death in a fire ignited by a faulty gas tank. In one of his most powerful songs to date, a dejected but inspired Thad Reid stepped into the booth and recorded, “Memorial Day”, a spine-chilling song that explains in detail about the events that occurred that tragic night. Other gut-wrenching songs include the Disko Dave produced “Top of the Heights”, which details the journey of life’s up and downs, and the catchy ode to the old school, “Mr. Magic”. With the musical influences of Rakim, Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas, and Redman, Thad Reid’s style can be described as having Krs-One’s passion, Beanie Sigel’s intensity, and Ludacris’ clarity. Since relocating to the DC area in 2000, he has kept his name circulating by performing at local clubs such as Bar Nun, Crossroads, Bohemian Caverns, as well as dropping freestyles and radio promos for local stations such as WPGC 95.5 and Sirius Satellite Channel 40. In 2003, Reid released the mixtape, No Beat is Safe Vol.1, in which he has moved 1,200 units and received critical acclaim.
