The 40 Thieves started with Adam Speer and Matt Range on drums and bass playing poetry slams and hip-hop battles in and around Columbia, MO in 2004. Chris Blose came in on keys in 2005 and became an essential element to the song-writing process with began to occur. By late 2005 T40T were embraced by their music community and promoters, opening for national acts such as Ozomatli and Blackalicious. As they began to form relationships with Mid-Missouri MC's JG, Mr. Tivis, Steddy P, Sergio Slayer and Bustrip, as well as St. Louis artists Earthworms and Midwest Avengers, they began to record their first album. Home Tone Records signed the group in late 2006 and they finished their debut record at Mansion Studios in Columbia, Missouri. May 2007 saw the release of that debut entitled "Grass is Greener" and the thieves have been on the prowl ever since.
