Album Notes

The Act is a rare breed of band on the New York music scene - one with a philosophy.

As frontman Mike Shine explains, "Our music tells people to stand up to brutality and injustice wherever they find it. But it also lets them know that in the end the most important thing they can do is to just get up and dance."

The Act's debut CD Armageddon Hop uses a melodic blend of punk, garage rock, new wave, and glam to address issues of war, technology, sex, and love.

Armageddon Hop was produced by Wharton Tiers, who has also produced albums by Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., and White Zombie, as well as Helmet's gold record Meantime.

Almost as notable as their upbeat music and thoughtful lyrics, is their flamboyant multi-media live show. In the tradition of theatrical rockers like David Bowie and Devo, The Act uses costumes, props, lights, and even video technology to create a unique spectacle for their fans.

The Act has become a favorite of the New York music scene, playing regularly at venues such as Arlene Grocery, The Continental, Brownies, and the famed CBGB.

As The Act continues to grow, they look increasingly to new technologies to propel their vision into the future. The band has been exploring computer recording, synthesizers, and samplers to expand their sound into unknown territories. At its core, however, The Act will always remain a band with a mission to combat evil with rock 'n' roll.
