Album Notes

In an Austin garage in the summer of 2006 The Authors were born. Over the last three years this band’s music has developed into a mix of danceable pop songs and bass heavy rock tracks—a sound The Authors can truly call their own. Drummer Angela Stroud and bassist Josh Haben anchor most tunes. Singer/guitarist Justin Prater writes lyrics with a social conscious and a wounded heart that merge seamlessly with guitarist/keyboardist Ben Meza’s sonic tapestries of reverb drenched guitars and haunting keys. The band is influenced by the sounds of early New Order, The Cure, and current bands like Whitest Boy Alive, and Phoenix.

The Authors debut EP represents a cross section of their sound. “Lions” starts the album with its propulsive chorus and dance floor drums, and is followed by the more mellow, yet decidedly edgy “Tonight.” The unforgettable hook and instant radio bounce in “Put it On,” is followed by the post-punk rock of “Dig a Hole,” a song that ends with a lush ride out. This EP is just a brief hint of things to come.
