The Avatars: Rockin\' in Rockford
author: Phoenicia
The Avatars are: Ian Zander –Vocals/Guitars, Mark Gustafson – Vocals/Guitars, Scott Ford - Vocals/Bass, Dustin Copeland – Percussion The Avatars’ self titled album is in your face power pop rock n’ roll. Your ears will no longer be deprived once you hear upbeat melodies such as “Priest of Paranoia”- Dustin Copeland’s drumming introduction is a catchy beat that automatically draws you in, subsequently joined by the rhythmic sound of Scott Ford’s bass and the slight squeal of electric guitars that anxiously await the unyielding zealous vocals of Ian Zander. The song “Oh Denise,” (a personal favorite) is hauntingly harmonized, revealing a tale of emptiness and abandonment. Mark Gustafson and Ian Zander’s guitars create dark faster paced riffs with altering synchronization. I am also impressed by the lyrics to various songs featured on this album, as lyrics can often become relatable. These lyrics are well written with definite meaning. I imagine that seeing The Avatars perform live would be even better to experience. So I end with a question- When are you guys going to play a show in Phoenix?
