Album Notes

thebrotheregg are putting together these songs continually that are filled with festivity and mirth for the lascivious lovers and rioting youth.

Portland, Oregon: Portland psyche pop outfit, thebrotheregg, deliver another platter of delicious tunes just in time for the new year. The follow-up to 2005's "Aortica Mor", this 7 song "e.p." is equal parts love and grit, serenity and upheaval. The opening song, "Simpleton" plays like a calm campfire missive with sparse production that creates big open sound. Soft gravelly words float over the whole thing like, "On the wall as a fly open cataract sky. Dwindling is all our kindling..". Alternatively, songs like "Elevators" and "Daylight" simply rock your root chakra with bombastic guitars and verbal insurrections. "Blueberries" is a skate rock anthem for the new eon and "Dancing Satan" is more of the strange and compelling hook magick that defines thebrotheregg "outpop" sound. Additionally, "Elevators" is a catchy, up-beat jangle with a sideways Beatles head bob and the seductive chorus, "Avoiding, ignoring, asking what for. Pressing every button we will visit every floor. Up to the roof, down to the Earth's core, to where the stairwell's burning..." All that and if XTC F'd the Byrds you'd have "Simple Love" as their lovechild (track 3) and "Blasted" is just like it's own thing, man. It's got the crazy manic guitars and spazzy, real words coming at you strong like the rocket ship or crazy headspace that the name implies.

Issued on thebrotheregg's own Dandelion Wine recording label, this 7 song cd has beautiful digipack artwork based on the multi-media collage by Kathryn Hoffman consisting of numerous ink bugs in Technicolor cytoplasm. Check out thebrotheregg.com for lyrics and other stuff (also available on 12" vinyl in February 2008) !

This music puts me in a good place. "Simpleton" is warm and lush, not to mention intricate. "Elavators" is lyrically inspired, and the music is commanding. "Simple Love" delivers, "Blasted" rocks and "Daylight" is endlessly melodic. "Dancing Satan" nicely completes the record. It's music you can grow with.

It's got waltzes and runonsentencemelodiclyricism and crazy excellent musicianship, so it must be thebrotheregg.. I think the guided by voices-grade pop sensibility is new, but don't quote me on that.

if you were to eat this album, it would taste like reese's peanutbutter cups. if you were to smell this album, it would be like a cup of lemongrass in a dark ally. if you were to us this album to paint, it would display hues in both matte and metallic. if you were to use this cd as a coaster, you better have a shot of makers sitting on it.
