Album Notes

Hark! The Celebrity Pilots proudly present their latest drop into the psych-pop bucket, ‘Spooky Action’. Recorded and produced by Todd Tobias (GBV, Robert Pollard, Circus Devils) at Kent Ohio’s Waterloo Sound Recording, ‘Spooky Action’ celebrates timeless pop songwriting on multi-layered tapestries of fuzzy guitars, ancient organs and monophonic synths.

Following up 2005’s ‘Beneath the Pavement a Beach’, ‘Spooky Action’ spreads out into a larger, more eccentric ellipse. From the Byrdsian by way of My Bloody Valentine rave up of ‘Happy Bloom Day’ to the Beach Boys tinged ‘Our Dumb Century’ to the full out scatter shot punk-Zombies-esque ‘Festival of Flies’, songwriter/singer Chris Sheehan constructs another album of pop gems centered in 60/70s era psych, the Eno-Cale collaborations, and 80’s post punk.

“Whether it’s ringing power-pop, or stark soliloquies, Sheehan boasts the same deftly crafted acumen of established visionaries like Ted Leo and Apples in Stereo’s Robert Schneider, which as it goes without saying makes for some highly desirable company.”
