In 1998, because they lost a bet, they released their first full length L.P. Entitled "Ignore the Law". Soon after it's release, "Ignore the Law" had heavy rotation to charting at over 75 CMJ (College Music Journal) radio stations and including many times on the top thirty. It has sold over 2,000 copies to date.

One year later, thinking that losing a bet was a good thing, The Drive released their anticipated follow up album "FM". "FM" would go on to sell more than 1000 copies in it's first six months and spawn a three-week European tour with the EML management group. London, Hamburg, and Berlin were among the targeted cities. Berlin turned out more than 700 people into a tiny club causing a near riot. More than 100 copies of "FM" were sold that night, while close to 50 disappeared due to smiley girls and five finger discounts.

In the fall of 2000 The Drive recorded their first self titled EP at renowned Pachyderm Studios, in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. Produced by Nashville, Tennessee's David Wilson and engineered and mixed by Brent Sigmeth (Nirvana, Live, and Soul Asylum), The Drive's essence of raw high-energy rock was captured on these five powerful tracks. The Drive received much applause in 2000 from there effort both locally and nationally. In February of 2001 The Drive had heavy rotation to charting at over 150 CMJ stations achieving many #1 chartings and coming close to cracking to national top 200. In May of 2001 The Drive taped a video for the popular single "Wasted", which can be viewed on the bands official website.

For the summer of 2002 The Drive is planning another tour of Germany.

I was looking through this pile of CD's the other day, and one came across my eye. What is this? The Drive? What are they all about? I will tell you straight up that I judge a cd and books by the cover. If the cover is boring, bye bye, I am not going to read it or listen to it. When I came across The Drive, there was no CD cover. This made me curious. Some of us are farther away from our teenage years than others. Still, who doesn't remember the days when the perfect pop song was the only way to express your mixed up mind and heart. When The Drive's strong sound is looked at as a whole, bands like early 10,000 Maniacs, the English group Ride, Bettie Serveert, and Geraldine Fibbers (at their calmest) come to mind. But any comparison only goes so far. In short, Drive has stumbled upon a refreshing and unique pop sound. The Drive's songs are catchy and keep you interested, nice change to some of the thrash/metal/punk stuff that is around at the moment. I think we'll hear more from The Drive in the future.

Minneapolis' The Drive possess an intense fusion of rock style that aims to please. With catchy hooks and strong rhythms, the trio delivers an addictive mixture of high-energy sound with touches of punk and pop and the occasional techno number here and there. It's music meant to connect with a crowd and these guys certainly seem to know what they're doing. With the release of Too Damn Wasted, the band comes across with a vigor that makes for a pulsing show ideal for those staying in town over break and craving a musical diversion.
