Album Notes

The Elevators

Four Olim from the U.S. create rootsy Hebrew music in the spirit of their time and birthplace – California of the ‘70s

Alongside their successful tribute concerts to the Grateful Dead
(see reviews below), The Elevators will soon be releasing their debut album “Olim”

A short history of The Elevators:
Aryeh Naftaly, fearless leader of the band, made Aliyah in 1985. He accompanied Shlomo Carlebach until his passing in 1994, producing two albums and a documentary film for “the singing Rabbi.” At the same time he founded the cult band “N Safeq” (“The best white soul band in Israel” – Jerusalem), the pioneers of alternative Jewish music who rose to fame as the house band of the “Uri Zohar 2” television show and the stars of the rockumentary “Florking With The Boys.” N Safeq broke up in 1998, and since then Naftaly has worked with the best of Israeli musicians including Ehud Banai, Dudi Levi, Hadara Levine-Areddy and many more.
About two years ago Rob Steiner, co-founder with Naftaly of the ‘80s San Francisco-based band Pacific Time, made Aliyah, and with the addition of Tom Curran and Michael Roth, both recent Olim from the U.S., The Elevators began their ascent.

“Such a gift and such love. I couldn’t believe I was there alone and this was happening to me… This was the first concert where I heard part of the soundtrack to my life playing on stage while all the people around me were part of it with me.
It was an outstanding concert.”
- Eran Sabbag, Ha’Ir (Tel Aviv)

“Finger-licking good.”
- Asher Kasher, Promo - Ma’ariv

“It was simply amazing… I didn’t stop smiling until the next morning…
I didn’t want it to end… The closest we’ll ever come to a Dead concert.”
- Barak Haimovitch, 106 FM

"Aryeh Naftaly is a precious man, a kind, modest person and a talented musician, head and shoulders above many artists whose songs are on the radio these days…
I went to hear his band in Jerusalem - it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, one I will never forget. The atmosphere was magical, electrifying…"
–Shaul Mizrahi, manager/owner, Club Barby
