Album Notes

\"During an extended stay in Los Angeles Jesse Sharps connected with many musicians in Leimert Park while working on the preservation of the music of The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. Some were young, up and coming players, others were old friends and established musicians, and many of course were members of The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. There was much talk of setting
up a recording session or event while he was here. The history he had with \"The Ark\" as one of Horace Tapscott\'s most trusted band leaders, along with the respect he carried as a player and composer, allowed him a unique position to bring together a great assembly of some of the most progressive players from the Los Angeles area. What transpired was a day of incredible music, performance, and heartfelt sharing.

The Gathering: Leimert Park - Roots and Branches of Los Angeles Jazz is a vehicle to bring to the world a group that shares a deep musical and historical connection to the progressive jazz and improvised music of Los Angeles, as well as a glimpse of the rich history and tradition that has often gone unnoticed beneath the glitz and glamour of Tinsel Town. From up and coming young lions to elder statesmen of jazz, their stellar performances have been captured live on this historical and wonderful recording. Come share in this historic event.

After hearing an interview with Jesse Sharps on Carlos Nino’s Spaceways radio show on www.kpfk.org where they discussed this project. I was blown away by both the music and the man Jesse Sharps - so much history of good music! He mentioned CD baby in the interview so I purchased a copy the next day. Peyote song 3 is my fave so far. Support good music and purchase today.
