Todd Hanson, head writer for the Onion, has described the Gomers as a "God Squad of Rock." Others refer to them as "Madison, Wisconsin's House Band." Still others feel the Gomers are their personal backing band, as anyone can rock with them nearly twice weekly at their "Rockstar Gomeroke and Kiddyoke" events, where they are the musical group for a live band karaoke experience many say is second to none. Concerts. Festivals. Weddings, weddings and more weddings. All this, and originals too? Studio recording? Which brings us to this page, dear alternative comedy rock music lover.
Recently, locally loved (and internationally known) Smart Studios (Nirvana, Garbage, Killdozer, etc) closed its doors. Before the final slam, the Gomers stuck their rocking feet in the door and recorded a full length LP with mastermind Mike Zirkel at the helm. Adding another track cut at Madison Media Institute (mixed by Godxilla) and esteemed special guest Adrian Belew detonating a solo, "Gomerica" was born.
There are songs about love. Songs about monsters. Songs about people. A song about fire. And light. And pants. A song about Halloween. Yes, a song for the holiday of Halloween. All played with a wild rocking abandon "like crazed weasels in heat," John Kovalic would say. Bottom line: this is party music with depth, variety and humor. It belongs in your iPod next to Lonely Island, Frank Zappa, Ween and NRBQ to name a few.
