Album Notes

STRAIGHT NO CHASER

"Some of you may be familiar with IG Culture's smokin re-mix of Lekan Babalola's " Asokere" but this album is an all together different affair.

"Tales of diaspora" is a free spirited jazz infused collaboration between Babalola the percussionist/if Yoruba cultural activist and classically trained clarinetist Kate Luxmoore.

It features the vocals of Helen McDonald and a posse of Birmingham based musicians capable of conveying a celebratory journey which traces the route of Yoruba traditions from West Africa to the Caribbean and the New World.
The fluid radio friendly compositions allow the music to embrace a myriad of influences from montunoes to afrobeat.

"Tales of diaspora" is an indie production that implicitly rejects and resists the consistent marginalisation of this music. Check it"
