Album Notes

The Locals are really excited to announce the release of thier 4th full length cd “Big Picture”. Released June 14th 2008, the disc is a collection of catchy and diverse, guitar heavy, alt-pop, tunes.

Fronted by singer and songwriter Yvonne Doll, the Locals® have been a part of the Chicago music scene for the last decade. During that time, their style evolved from singer/songwriter to borderline jam band. But while “Big Picture” contains subtle winks at the past, this trio has emerged confident and head-strong to produce 11 tracks of sumptuous, guitar-heavy alt-pop.

Behind the scenes (and the mixing board) on “Big Picture” was producer and engineer Steve Gillis – [formerly of alt rock mega band Filter]. Also appearing on the cd are guest musicians Eric Remschneider on cello (The Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream, Filter -Title of Record). The disc also features guest appearance by two members of Milwaukees favorite all chick rock band, Dropmore Scarlet, Kari Bloom on backing vocals Kristen Kakatsch lending some extra guitar work

The Locals®’ sound is culled from a variety of influences: listen for PJ Harvey; Yeah Yeah Yeahs; Silversun Pickups and The Pixies. Together, it is the Locals’ own distinct flavor, their own unique sound. And while most of the tracks are instantly accessible, Doll’s lyrics give the erudite something to chew on. “Big Picture” is a collection of smart, engaging songs.

REVIEWS:
"'Tidal Wave' is pop beauty, catchy and hook-filled and summery and fun. "Big Picture" and "Perfect World" are more calm, more retrospective, but with nice heavy guitars and big drums. And The Locals rock, straight up."

"[Big Picture] drives home a power-pop, alt-rock sound that hearkens back to the mid-Nineties female rock boom recalling sounds of the Breeders, PJ Harvey and Tori Amos. Lead singer Yvonne Doll's voice draws one back to that time as well, sounding like a sharp hybrid of Juliana Hatfield and Gwen Stefani. Tracks move from urgent to earnest, intricate in depth to unrestrained with playfulness."
