For current jazz lovers and a new generation of jazz fans.
Simple Harmonic Motion was written by composer/pianist Ben Statz who tried to include a variety of sounds from our repertoire. The resulting album is a collection of different styles with a contemporary feel to straight-ahead jazz. We hope you enjoy it.
Songs:
Doodle - An upbeat swing/bebop tune with a happy mood that will leave you humming.
Simple Harmonic Motion - Open, downtempo song with a more modal approach to harmony - the chords move simply, hence the title. The title is also a reference to a physics term which describes an oscillating motion, such as that of a pendulum.
Crossroads - A melodic 3/4 tune which alternates between a swing beat and a loose, easy feel, played as a trio.
The Ladder - The last song written for the album. Several ideas were to add a blues, a funk/fusion styled song, or a song in an odd time signature such as 7/4. Since Ben couldn't decide, the resulting song is a combination of all three ideas.
Beautiful - A ballad played as a piano solo with a simple melody layered with beautiful embellishments.
In No Particular Hurry - Samba with a relaxed feel and melodic lines.
Not Yet - A medium tempo swing based around various rhythmic patterns.
Note: Bonus track and musician bios are included with the physical CD.
