Funky, Friendly, Deep Music
author: John Clough
It’s evident from listening to Annunciation St. that The Mumbles have spent the last few years absorbing the wide-range of traditional American Jazz cultures to which they’ve been exposed during their exhaustive touring of the East Coast and Deep South. The music and lyrics, while quirky, catchy and contemporary at the core, are deeply saturated with the echoes emanating from the walls of every jazz club, tavern, basement bar, college pub and night club from Brooklyn to Bourbon Street. Each song is a visceral experience, awakening haunting memories and sensations of late-night smoky bars, shady characters, steaming hot cityscapes, and days long-since past. Good performances from a musical duo at the top of their game. Terrific eyes-closed headphone music.
