The Muses are a three woman a cappella powerhouse group based in Asheville, North Carolina.
In "Celtic Hillbilly Soul", The Muses' second release, Natalie Grinnell, Gail Forsyth and Judy Rhodes get back to their roots.
The soaring vocal harmonies in this rousing collection of a cappella music will give you goosebumps. The Muses combine original, traditional Appalachian, Celtic and soulful selections in this new CD. At once moving, amusing and fresh, each song will leave you inspired.
Track Selections:
Layering in vocal percussion and soulful vocals, The Muses' rendition of "Inner City Blues"does Marvin Gaye proud!
Fans of beautiful Celtic song will enjoy Gail's Scots vocals on the peaceful track "Gloomy Winter's Noo Awa'".
The traditional Appalachian song "In My Time of Dyin' showcases Natalie Grinnell's soulful voice.
Judy Rhodes' scathing political commentary finds voice in "Brainwash Me Baby". Perhaps we should submit this to the Democratic Party as the anthem of their next convention?!
More about The Muses' members:
Judy Rhodes' family has lived in the Western North Carolina area since the early 1700s. Her deep knowledge of the culture and music of the area add richness to the group.
Gail Forsyth hails from Aberdeen, Scotland but has found a home away from home in Appalachia. Her lovely, nuanced voice brings Celtic song alive.
Natalie Grinnell, our resident diva, is originally from Durham, NC via Omaha, Nebraska. Her powerful, soulful voice transforms every piece she sings into a mesmerizing experience.

And then there\'s the \"soul\" part of \"Celtic Hillbilly Soul\"...I love that they can switch genres so readily and leave you with goosebumps at every turn. Bravo!

Wow! I am so pleased to have discovered this group. The gorgeous harmonies totally gave me chills and I love the mix of songs from different folk traditions. I would never have imagined that you could do so much with just unaccompanied voices. It's hard to do really good a cappella, but The Muses really have it down. Incredible CD! Thanks!
