Album Notes

This CD is a perfect example of what some young, bright and talented people capable of creating without the bracing support of the major labels in the music industry.

The Nihil is a three-member, free form rock band from Long Beach California.

Their musical intent --as they put it-- is fusing Western traditional Rock elements with Eastern musical motives to create a dark medieval sounding environment driven by passionate guitar runs, heavy drum lines, supported by strong underlined bass and spiritual lyrics. Although they use traditional electric and acoustic instruments in concerts, their recordings include other exotic instruments like sitar, tabla, bongo etc. to achieve higher purity and authenticity.

The songs on this CD range from harmonic- tinged electric- to down and dirty slide guitar, and to slower melodic, acoustic songs.

The singer and guitarist of the band, Robert Kalapos (21 years of age) is in his senior year attending California State University of Long Beach (CSULB) pursuing a major in biology.

His younger brother Mate Kalapos (Matt) - who is a 16-year-old High school student is the drummer, the creator of the colorful drum lines.

An old friend of Rob's is Bradlee Crihfield (19 years old)(Brad) - who is also a college Student (searching for his carrier in music) - plays the bass guitar.

This is the first full-length release for The Nihil, but they are in preparation for the next album already.

This album will give the customer more than just high quality artworks in and outside the jewel box, but the impressive music cuts trough with high musical talent and poetic intelligence in the lyrics...Buy it! It's worth every penny.

I've bought and listened to The Nihil CD… Seems pretty well produced, looks professional too. I really like some of Rob's compositions where he mixed a few riffs over his rhythm guitar. The guys should do well with Morrison fans. Track 7 is interesting and shows the band's range of music… A definite change in style and more my kind of flavor with the guitar solo. They really talented and I would love to hear more upbeat songs in this style of music. Glen Dromgoole New Zealand

NIHILISM / The Nihil Kalapos Records What would you get if Jim Morrison ever hooked up with Motorhead, what would you get? I tell you what you'd get a power house rock trio known as The Nihil. The power trio which is made up of, Robert Kalapos on vocals and guitar, Bradlee Crihfield on bass and Mate Kalapos on drums, come out swinging from the moment you hit play with tracks like the guitar laden rockers, "The Gathering" and "Bloodflower". If you want more the boys are more than happy to get your rocks off with tracks like, "The Gallows" and "Gone". 'NIHILISM' is ball tearer of a debut outing! If you like your rock and roll served up hard, loud and fast with guitar riffs and drums that will have you holding onto your seat then this is the album for you. Overall, I must say that The Nihil's debut has impressed me. While not a perfect album, it goes to show that the band, more likely than not, has a bright future, more than I can say for some of the junk that's out there today. When you put this cd in your car and turn it up, it takes on another life of its own. Get your hands on The Nihil, you will not be dissapointed. All the current music out now seems to be dead and stinking, but this is fresh. If you want modern rock that doesn't suck, give The Nihil a listen.
