Thanks to everyone who has been buying so many songs off the internet - it's exciting to see downloads from here to Australia. I'm starting to write the followup - tentatively titled "September 12th", and hope to get it done this year. Half the songs for the album have been half written, so there's a way to go. For the first time, I'm blogging the writing process - go to myspace.com/thepcp1 to see how it's coming together.
In the meantime, here are the liner notes for "Afterthought":
HUMAN NATURE: At some point in your life, you start to think that everyone in the world is evil. I came to this realization at some point and cited some examples. Paul Taylor Dance Company member Orion Duckstein lends solo guitar here and punctuates said observations with some unbelievable aggressive guitar.
TIME WILL TELL: That moment in every relationship when you get the feeling that it may be doomed...though you hope for the best.
WHAT HAPPENED, ANYWAY: A Christmas card came to me once from the last person I ever expected to hear from again. These were the only words written on the card. The organ solo was inspired by old Velvet Underground records.
WALTZ: As a production manager for several dance companies, I grew to admire dancers as the ultimate artists. This song is dedicated to them. The words are about something else, and are pretty self explanitory. This is also the end of the slow side of the record.
DRIVING: An adventure about a car, a hitchhiker, the road and getting on with it. Orion is back channelling road rage through his strat. There was no arrangement for this song - we all had one take at it - no excuses, no apologies. Later, Orion was allowed to listen to the track once before he put down his solos in a single take.
TUNNELVISION/INTO THE FIRE AGAIN: Getting back on your feet and getting on with your life, sometimes you just have to.
MY LOVE FOR YOU: Ever go through your high school love letters and read all about all the mountains you will move and all the rivers you will cross? The fact is, the mountain isn't going anywhere. And so what? The quicker you get to the reality of each other, the better.
YOU JUST KNOW IT: You don't always know if the person you're with is the wrong person, but when they're right, you just know it.
AFTERTHOUGHT: Don't dwell on the past, but don't forget all of it either. Sometimes you have to give it an afterthought.

You won't be able to buy just one!!
author: Gayle Crispin
This is one of those albums that you'll buy several copies...one for your office, one for your car and 3 to give to friends. From the heartfelt lyrics to the grip-the-steering-wheel-until-your-knuckles-are-white guitar lyrics, I loved every second of this album. Don't pass this one up!

1. Listen to this CD 2. Use CD to decapitate The Backstreet Boys
author: Rawling Stohn
Damn, this thing has cajones. Are you happy with the state of music? (I didn't think so.) This CD is the antidote. Remember the Stones, Led Zep, Lou Reed anymore? This is their progeny. 10 songs from the heart, slammin' guitars, vocals that hold nothing back. But wait, there's more. If you act now you also get this free set of Ginsu knives. As Costello said, writing about music is like dancing about architecture. Just buy it already. Or you could go get the new CD by the latest Alanis clone (zzzzz.....)

Rock isn't dead. it's dope!!!
author: The Joje
THE PCP is one of those albums that people who still call CDs albums can appreciate. True rock n' roll! What most took me about this excellent disc is the songwriting. Really catchy tunes that grab you after (during) the first listen. The PCP kind of reminds me of a cross between Hootie and the Blowfish (who get a bad rap but make kick ass catchy pop rock) and the Replacements. The PCP have that very good pop sensibility (think classic rock billboard top 40) but unabashed garage created attitude. They don't seem to be in it for the money. More the feeling or desire (need?) to convey a message. Just good old rock n' roll! Special kudos to sometime lead guitar guest Orion Duckstein who has kind of a Robbie Krieger range and delivery and the wife/baby (so cute!) photo underneath the CD is so from the heart, non-posing and honest that it brings another ballsy, rock n' roll element to this 10 song classic. My favorite track has to be #9, "You Just Know It", which has some funky guitar and drums and a nice melodic instrumental interlude (a kind of song within a song that Paul McCartney used to do so well with Wings). Buy this disc!!!! P.S. It makes for great driving music (as in your car) as well...
