Album Notes

TRUTH is a group that combined Alphonso Boyd AKA Al Boyd, Russell Watts and Leo Green formerly of The Imperial Wonders and Larry Hancock formerly of The Intertains and S.O.U.L. They were the opening act for The O'Jays on their 20th Anniversary Tour with The Whispers, Johnny Guitar Watson and about five other acts in 1977. While on that tour they were guests on Soul Train with The O'Jays and Al Jarreau on episode # 226. Later that same year Al and Larry went to New York to try to place songs on other acts and met up with The O'Jays who were performing at Radio City. They rode with them to Philadelphia and got a song on The O'Jays multi-platinum LP "So Full of Love" called "Take Me To The Stars". They were destined for greatness but because of bad business decisions the group broke up. Al Boyd went on to be a Staff Writer for Motown's famous publishing company Jobete Music, where he wrote "Blow The House Down" with Kerry Gordy. He was already well known for writing "Shakey Ground" which is one of the most re-recorded funk songs of all time. Briefly TRUTH got back together to tour supporting their new LP "Coming Home" which featured only two members Larry Hancock and Leo Green. The title song "Coming Home" was also co-written by Al Boyd. A couple of other songs on the LP were penned by Al and Larry, but only featured all four members vocally on about three cuts. Later before parting ways TRUTH toured as opening act and back up singers for Dennis Edwards of The Temptations fame.A few years ago a group called Phats and Small did a remake of a song titled "This Time Around" which was co-written by Al Boyd in 1972. The song was originally recorded by a group/band called S.O.U.L. from out of Cleveland, Ohio, which featurd Larry Hancock on lead vocals. Phats and Small used a sample of Larry's voice on their Club orientated recording which sold very well in Europe,The Netherlands and Asia.Sit back and enjoy this collection of songs which features real horns and strings that is a basically a lost art form for today's contemporary R&B singing groups.
