ABOUT THIS ALBUM


Album Notes
This Album starts with strong, original fresh instrumentals written by 17 year old bluegrass guitarist Corey Smith. Glenn Valley and Apple Tree Shoals are a great picture into the soul of the developing music of the Smith Family. It is highlighted by Corey's writing and guitar work; and his sister Nellie's bluegrass fiddling that has a strong classical influence due to her musical background. Brother Eli is a developing mandlin player with his own very unique and original style, and brother Luke rounds it out with a solid banjo presence.

The original material also includes a civil war song entitled "A Soldier's Song" which is a picture really of the attraction of young men to war. Another original gospel piece, "To Save A Sinful Man" is an original look at a subject that never grows old; how God alone saves sinful men

Sweet Georgia Brown is an old standard redone because its swing genre is especially suited to Nellie's fiddling style, and she features her strengths well on this.

Emma's Waltz is an old European Waltz done in an updated more contemporary, bluesy style as well.

Praise To The Lord is a reproduction of a great old hymn in a more contempary, but flowing bluegrass influence

This is The Smith Family's first professional studio output and it is a good representation of the rapid progression of their musical journey.
