Album Notes

In Owego, NY during the summer of 2004 a band was born. This band weaves a groovy, spacey sound with thoughtful lyrics and poignant musicianship. In this sound you will hear the drum stylings of singer/song writer Tom Sheehy paired with the hand drumming of Tony Montana. The bass slappings of Ryan Marchewka and the guitar weildings of Jim Gale. Completed with keyboard/guitar/singer/songwriter Tom Sickler.

The Spelunkers have played venues throughout the Northeast. Ranging from full size 1500+ sized venues to your local homegrown taverns. The band always reserves time to perform at charitable and community events as well as private parties and festivals.

The band brings an energy and crowd involvment not commonly found in a live music environment. Drum jams easily spread from the stage to the floor as the band slowly hands out percussive instruments to participating and interested members of the audience. The groove becomes one of the room as a whole. There is never a dull moment at a show. From themed costumes to special guests, every night and every event is one to be remembered with The Spelunkers.

El Matador

The album contains a great mix of musical styles and instrumentation. The Title Track El Matador is a classic tale of a matador fighting against those who would come between him and his happiness. Other tracks like Lost, How Long, and Wake Up deal with modern day issues we all are facing. Each song has its own feel. Some tracks feel celtic, while others have a latin influence. Be sure to get a copy of El Matador and experience the full analog sound.

REVIEWS

Only professional wrestling can rival this Cd in excitement and intensity.

Seriously, if Jimmy The Superfly Snuka was a song he'd probably be "Wake Up". I remember the classic match in 1984 between Ted Dibiase and JYD when Demolition interferred, it was similar to the Spelunkers "Fireworks" jam they did back a couple of years ago when a little kid came up to them and asked, "Why are you guys still playing?" Classic. Almost as classic as The Ultimate Warrior beating Tito Santana for the Television Championship with the Bodyslam from Hell. I once asked Tony if he thought Shawn Michaels was pound for pound the best wrestler ever and he just said, "Well, Agnes, I might be swayed to your thinking if it wasn't for George The Animal Steele!" And I was like, of course!!! Jeez, I almost forgot about that maniac. If the Spelunkers teamed up with The Animal I would commit suicide shortly after cause let's be honest, it's all downhill thereafter.

Kinda like Tim McGraw but without the country sound

I have listened to this album cover to cover 13 times now, and I must say I can't wait for the 14th. My favorite place to listen to this CD is at a good truckstop. My doctor usually prescribes Valium and this CD to his patients that are dealing with erectile dysfunction. I once met the Toms, I must say, Tom is cool but Tom is an idiot. If you don't buy this CD, do yourself a favor and buy an inground pool to soak your sorrows away. The last time I saw the Spelunkers jam out, I was quite sober and found that if I tapped along to the beats, it sounded a lot like the theme from Mash. Tony is really from Chad, not Egypt like everyone claims. If you're a scientologist, I recommend this album to improve your e-meter score, or just quit scientology and join up with the pagans, because they claim that The Spelunkers are the result of the sun god getting it on with the tree god or something. Someone once asked me the question, "Ken, what is it about the Spelunkers that makes them better than say, oh, The Spin Doctors and Blues Traveler combined?" I said, "Their ability to play in the key of A minor."

The Spelunkers are to music what Michael Jordan was to music.

Some songs are awesome. Other songs are awesomer. And yet the last songs are pretty sweet. The only problem I have with this album is that there are 8 songs instead of 155 songs. If I was an instrument I would be a flute because Ryan is a good flutist, but not many people know this factoid. If someone handed me this album I would dip it into chocolate cause that's the only way it could get any better. My favorite meal to eat while listening to the Spelunkers is macaroni and cheese with ham and ketchup. I prefer the colors yellow and green to convey the feelings and moods of this exquisite CD.
