Album Notes

They have been heard on the Howard Stern radio program, featured twice as "Net Unknowns" on Net Music Countdown, showcased in MacAddict Magazine, interviewed by "Online Tonight with David Lawrence", been finalists in the CALL-ATT battle of the bands, and chosen as a featured live touring band on MusicTourBus.com. Their music has been licensed for use in MTV's Real World, Road Rules, and Extreme Challenge.

The four members of The Thornbirds are consummate songwriters and musicians. Guitarist Russ Parrish and drummer Darren Leader formed the group while playing in some of the most popular cover bands in the United States (Metal Shop, The Atomic Punks, and Boogie Knights). Rhythm guitarist Jimmy Oleson also fronts an 80's cover band (The Spazzmatics), while bassist Dean Cameron's "day job" includes acting credits in over 20 movies, as well as regular roles on several television shows (including NBC's acclaimed series Mr. Sterling).

The Thornbirds

There is a legend about a bird which sings just once in its life,
more sweetly than any other creature on the face of the earth.
From the moment it leaves the nest it searches for a thorn tree,
and does not rest until it has found one.

Then, singing among the savage branches,
it impales itself upon the longest, sharpest spine.
And, dying, it rises above its own agony to out-carol the lark and the nightingale.

One superlative song, existence the price.
But the whole world stills to listen,
and God in His heaven smiles.
For the best is only bought at the price of great pain...
or so says the legend.

REVIEWS

great players, great songs (they're cute, too!)
author: tracy doan
After seeing their side project (metal skool) the last time I was in hollywood, (I HAVE GOT TO MOVE THERE AS SOON AS I GET OUT OF GRAD SCHOOL!) someone who had seen them a whole bunch told me about the thornbirds and I went to tower records when I got back home and bought the CD. I think my favorite song is teenage tramp, but the thing is: they're all great. This is the kind of music I miss hearing on the radio. It's honest and comes from a real place. It's not angry at the world or women... well maybe it's a little angry at women... but... That's why they're musicians, I guess. The songs Hold on to Jane and Cocaine and Caviar are just beautiful and powerful and I wish these guys would come to Texas to play because we need them here! The music is part weezer, part cheap trick, part king's x (a favorite here in texas). It's great music. And all the guys are cute, too!
