The West Indies consists of 3 members. Doug Masters (emcee), DEFCON 5 (emcee/producer), DJ ADAMNT (Turntables). The West Indies formed 4 years ago in 2002. The group was created by 3 friends that had a deep admiration for the culture of Hip Hop. Influenced heavily by the Hip Hop acts of the early to mid 90's and the emerging independent Hip Hop scene that happened in the late 90's. The West Indies rely on true school aesthetics. No Keyboards, no CD turntables and no BLING.
Through doing shows The West Indies made contacts with other Hip Hop acts. They recorded a few songs with DJ Shag of Joint Response. One of the songs recorded appears on the DJ Shag compilation From the Depths. The album From the Depths can be found on CD Baby and Itunes. Currently The West Indies and DJ Shag are working on an album together. The project does not have a name yet. However several songs have been recorded.
This release marks the first in many albums to come. It's got a touch of old school east coast Hip Hop mixed with the new school west coast Hip Hop scene. If your interested in hearing something new, this album is worth checking out.
