The White Hots are a blues, swing and jazz group which performs everything from mellow instrumental music as a trio, to swing dances with a full band. Named for a gastronomic specialty from their hometown of Rochester New York, the White Hots are true students of their craft. But they never take things too seriously so the music is always fun.
In the spring of 2001, guitarist Aleks Disljenkovic, bass player Ted Mosher and harmonica player Tom Hanney-some of Western New York’s most respected blues musicians-decided to form a different kind of band, an instrumental group that would explore the subtleties of the blues. They put together a couple of sets of music and headed to their first job. But a funny thing happened at the gig. Steve Greene, jazz guitarist, was there, liked what he heard, and asked to join the group. Aleks, Ted and Tom jumped at the chance and the White Hots were off and running. They’ve been playing regularly throughout the Rochester, NY area ever since.
Aleksandar Disljenkovic began his professional career as a blues guitarist in 1976 after playing with renowned bluesman “Son” House. By the mid-1980s, Aleks was touring the U.S., Canada and Mexico with a number of blues headliners. His Serbian roots and a growing interest in jazz and composition have made Aleks a gifted songwriter.
Ted Mosher has played with many of the best blues bands in upstate New York, including internationally known Joe Beard and John Cole. He played with legendary bluesman “Son” House in the 1970s after Son was rediscovered living in Rochester.
Jazz fans across the country appreciate the talents of guitarist Steve Greene. Known for his improvisational skills and the rich texture of his playing, Greene has released three CDs to rave reviews, including Gene with Greene with internationally-renowned jazz guitarist Gene Bertoncini. Greene is the owner of Steve Greene Music Studios and NorthTwelve Productions.
A veteran of blues and rock bands, Tom Hanney (harmonica) played with recording artist Sidney Blue. He teaches harmonica classes and is a partner in BluesPower!, a team-building presentation. His harmonica playing was featured on CBS Channel 8’s morning show.
