Album Notes

Thia Sexton woke up one morning awhile back thinking, \"No more dead people\". It wasn\'t ghosts, but playing cello music of old composers. Though she loved those guys and their music, she wanted to do something fresh. \"And besides, kings throwing chamber music parties has gone out of fashion\".
Growing up in NY, LA and San Francisco, Thia studied classical cello but played guitar, piano and bass on her own. \"I always loved the poetry of lyrics, and what they do to the world of a song\".
Arriving in LA in need of some fast cash, Thia went to the Venice Boardwalk to play her cello under an umbrella. The first day she was asked to join 5 rock bands. She joined all of them. \"There was so much great music I had missed, studying the classics so intensely. I started learning old Jimi Hendrix solos on my cello and listening to everything from Radiohead and Nirvana to Postal Service, Pink Floyd, Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake and Bjork\".
\"Then I had the good fortune to have a particularly hideous breakup. All I could do was write songs, since I couldn\'t eat or sleep. I\'d start out sitting up straight like a cellist, but it seems writing a song and sitting up straight are diametrically opposed enterprises. Slouching back in the chair, the cello was awkward, so I\'d pull it onto my lap and fingerpick or strum it like a guitar. Playing it that way created totally different chords, and the sound was beautiful\". She put on a guitar strap, and now plays her cello like a guitar most of the time.
\"I knew I needed someone extraordinary as producer, cello being the main instrument. She was introduced to Dan Schwartz (a musician who has worked with Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, Linda Perry, Michael Jackson, Brian Eno and a was member of Tuesday Night Music Club), who had a friend in need of a cat sitter for a couple of weeks. They decided to roll in Dan\'s vintage recording equipment, record some songs while she cat sat, and see how it went. It went well.
Striving for the highest quality sound, they recorded the songs for \"Ever\" mostly at 192K, mixed to 1\" tape, mastered through an analog chain, and made CD\'s from a real time glass master. Her 2 music video \"I Know\" was shot on the revolutionary new Red Camera.
Comparisons to Thia\'s music run the gamut from Norah Jones and Dido to Bjork .\"Everyone who played on the record is so talented. That\'s why I say this solo record isn\'t really a solo record, because their skills and passion added so much. Indeed, the list of credits is impressive (Beck, R.E.M., Gnarls Barkley, Wilco, Tori Amos, Elliot Smith, k.d. lang, Smashing Pumpkins, Eels, Sara McLachlan, James Blunt, Madonna, and more).
\"I want to thank everyone who has bought a song or CD (and whoever invented credit cards), because I\'ve done this myself.

Minimalistic, dearly and most willfully but yet still groovy - one of a kind!!
