Album Notes

Third Sunday Band began in 1998 as an expression of contemporary worship music for a traditional setting, this group of friends and musicians has continually grown on its journey with God's gift of music. In addition to their friendship and love of music, together they are share a desire to answer His call. Influenced by a diversity of musical styles, Third Sunday continually crafts popular Christian selections into unique arrangements of their own. Third Sunday features acoustic and electric guitar, keyboard, harmonica, mandolin, flute, and percussion along with 6 vocalists in an energetic blend of traditional hymns and folk, rock, country and blues styled contemporary music. If you arrive for worship at St. Margaret's Church in Annapolis on the third Sunday of each month you will find this unique musical offering with a traditional Episcopal liturgy.

This CD represents the Band's beginnings with live in the studio versions of contemporary Christian songs of praise. The self-titled CD includes a country/bluegrass version of Cindy Morgan's "Praise the King" sung by Jeanne Burton and also features Jeanne's sweet voice on "Deep Deep Love" and "How Could I ask for More". Emilie Stafford offers a hauntingly powerful effort on Mercy Me's "I Can Only Imagine" and teams up with Al Todd for lead vocals on "I Could Only Sing". Al also took his talents to "Nails in His Hands", adding new arrangement and lyrics to this classic. Strong five part harmonies added by Cathy Dea, Leah Droof, and Mary McKiel bring the prayerful "Create in Me" and "Take Me As I Am" to life and yield vocal triumphs for the Vineyard selection "If You Say Go" and the celtic "Canticle for the Sun". Gospel-like vocals and harmonica can be found on the blues rich "I Believe". Third Sunday proves on this CD that they can make these popular selections their own. In addition, the original rockin' blues version of the liturgical "Sanctus" is a Third Sunday original and a highlight of live worship and TSB performances.

The Third Sunday Band is composed of: Al Todd on acoustic guitar, mandolin, harmonica and vocals; Cathy Dea Code on vocals and percussion; Ernie Tucker on electric guitar, keyboards, flute, and mandolin; Norm Mayfield on electric guitar; Josh Chapman on bass; Mary McKiel on keyboard and vocals; Leah Droof, Jeanne Burton and Emilie Stafford on backup and lead vocals. The Band hopes this music can feed your soul like it nourishes our lives.

Third Sunday has captured the spirit of their live music in this studio recording and truly documented the unique blessing of their experience together. The self-titled CD includes 16 selections of their favorite contemporary praise songs and some old favorites as well. If you can't make it to St. Margaret's in Annapolis on the third Sunday of the month, you have to buy one of these CD's!

Overall an inspired first effort by a talented and versatile ensemble. "I Believe" and "Blues Sanctus" are real rock'n stand outs. "If You Say Go" is simply lovely. "The Nails in your Hands" and "We Will Dance" are slightly tedious but still easy on the ears. 3rd Sunday shines in "Take Me As I am"--a showcase for the band's confident harmonies. Buy it, you will be pleasantly surprised and spiritually fulfilled.

This is a nice effort with some really unique recordings of some classic praise tunes. I was delighted to find your version of Praise the King and Nails in your Hands is beautiful. I have never heard anything quite like that Sanctus. Feels like worship. Keep making music, I'll be singing along!

good instrumental and vocals - I personally can't get into the repetitious phrases...sounds like a lot of talent being wasted on repetetive phrases - need to revise some of your selections to include some more traditional type music that has extended rythyms. E X P A N D and utilize your vocal and instrumental talent.
