notes

Historic new wave, punk and power pop bands from upstate new york 1977 - 1984. 46 great tracks all digitally remastered to better than original sound from the era and city that birthed the goo goo dolls, ani difranco, MTV's Tom Calderone and others.

People still wonder why many of these bands didn't go national in a big way!!! just listen and you'll pack your bags too!

The goo goo dolls covered one of these tracks (THE ENEMIES disconnected) on their huge breakthrough Warner Bros. LP "A Boy Named Goo" - as a tribute to the sound of their city / buffalo, new york.

  • Buffalo's best!!!

My god! I can't believe I found this!!! McVan's lives on!!!! Fantastic!!!

  • 2 CD album showcases songwriting skills of the bands
    author: Black&WhiteStrat

Included are both versions of You'll Know Better by the legendary Jumpers and by The Edge (later known as Mercury Records artist The Restless). Other standouts include Davy & the Crocketts' - Stage Zero - a slam at one time concert promoter and nightclub owner Harvey Weinstein of Miramax films fame; The Good - Walk Around the World; The Method - Daylight and The Restless - It's Over. Buffalo News Pop Music critic Jeff Miers ranked The Jumpers' You'll Know Better and the Enemies' Capitol Idea as #2 and #4 on his Top 10 list of Buffalo indie-rock songs (Buffalo News Dec. 10, 2004) Liner notes include 21 B&W photos of the bands.

  • Back in the day...
    author: Rob J

Although largely ignored and even scorned by Buffalo radio in its' day, the new wave/punk scene in Buffalo meant much to those who got it and supported it and this compilation represents a good cross section of what was largely though to be some some ugly step-sister to the beautiful princess mainstream rock with hope that it would just go away if we ignored it. The step sister stayed and we who loved you, warts and all, salute you...

  • Why did cities like Buffalo & Milwaukee boast the best New Wave scene?
    author: gojohnnygo.com

I'm a sucker for regional compilations like this when they concentrate on the late-70s & early 80s punk-new wave- power pop era. Two discs filled with unknown bands in an environment removed from influence truly shines in its catchiness. Please LET ME KNOW if you find any more like this at johnny@tt.net. THANK YOU!

  • Buffalo, for all its reputation as an Eskimo village, was one of the great bastions of power pop in the late 70s, early 80s. Not only is this colection a great overview of bands that should have been more famous it's just a hell of a lot of fun.
