Raised by a musical family in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Tommy has been groomed by the sweet sound of blues and gospel since the day he was born. One of 10 children born to the late Inetta Johnson Thomas and James Thomas, the singer described his parents as "notorious gospel singers all throughout the South" They inspired him, he said, "but most of all, I thank God for giving me the talent."
Tommy got his first taste of the blues at a professional level when Capitol Records offered his older sister a contract. She was 14! By the time he was 12, he had already been offered a deal. Having parents who valued an education and letting kids be kids, Tommy was swayed away from the temptations of the recording business. Until now.
His current release, You Put That Dog Ahead of Me on Rock House Records, features the producing expertise of blues and soul great Roy Roberts. Together they fashion an experience filled with grit, humor and good ol' down home blues!
Today Tommy Thomas is also known as "The Working Man" because of his active involvement with many blues artists and his knowledge of the music business shows that good things come to those who wait. You Put That Dog Ahead of Me is getting airplay throughout the United States in addition to Canada and France. Check it out - and then check out Tommy Thomas when he comes to town!
