Thom received his bachelor of music degree in voice and piano from Houghton School of Music in 1982. After singing a wedding with a harpist, he wanted to learn to play and began studying harp at the Cape Cod Conservatory in 1987. Since that time, he has logged in over 1200 performances. Having been told it would take 3-5 years before he would be ready to make public appearances, he made his debut after only 6 months. Since then he has made concert, coffeehouse and festival appearances throughout new England and New York. Thom has toured Ireland 3 times & Northern Ireland twice, and in 2004 added England and Wales to his list of international venues. Thom was the recipient of the Judge's Overall Performance Award for Outstanding Musicianship at the New England Regional Folk Harp Competition and is a two-time medalist at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Folk Harp Competition. His dream came true when he was selected as a featured performer for the 1994 International Folk Harp Conference. In 1998, Thom was named an Outstanding Young Man in America for his continued contributions to the cultural enrichment of his community. In 2000, he was named 'Millenium Harper of Cape Cod' by Harping for Harmony in West Virginia for his work playing in the nursing homes of Cape Cod. Thom has brought the harp to the theatrical stage for which he received the Evelyn Lawson Award for his incidental music for the Academy Playhouse's production of 'Eleemosynary' in 1992 and a special award for Outstanding Arranging and Scoring from the Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theaters for his work on 'Three Tall Women' at Woods Hole Theater in 2001. The Troubadour Harper is a regular at First Night celebrations, and his annual Christmas Card Concerts grow in popularity each year. Thom has successfully completed his training as a Certified Music Practitioner with the Music For Healing and Transition Program. The Troubadour Harper has released three critically acclaimed recordings ('Celtic Charms', 'Song of the Star' & 'Cape Cod Ballads'), and through his company, Cape Side Music (www.capesidemusic.com) has published more than a dozen books of harp music.
