Album Notes

When you listen to Thom Williams' music, you hear a lifetime of influences: Jimi Hendrix, R.H. Blyth, Stanley Kunitz, the planets. His music and lyrics have soul and brilliance from every angle.

Thom comes from outside of Philadelphia. His poems have been published and won awards throughout the world. He is a teacher in the truest sense of the word.

Joined with the expressive guitar playing of J. R. Develin, Thom's songs alternately ache, pulse, and wail. His style is "igneous" rock and roll, flaming rock that cools into a semi-transparent, smooth, shining sound.

A truly amazing and diverse album, Obsidian enthralls any listener. A must hav
author: Ross Weidner
Thom Williams, a true master of the arts has done it again. Obsidian is everything that the title suggests. Combining mysterious rhythms, superior lyrics and a sense of true artistry unlike any other, Thom Williams has struck gold. It is truly impossible to define the genre of the excellence that is his debut album. Obsidian, the title track takes you to a scene high above an urban landscape descending to a rainwashed street. This imagery is not only unique but it physically addicts the listener to his poetic mastery. The diversity that champions this entire work tantalizes the listener. In Medea, Williams truly captures the loneliness, indecision, but bliss that is America. When listening, a painting is painted not only with his words but with the harmonies that pour from the speakers. It is almost as if he has dropped an oil rig to a truly beautiful existence to have black gold in the form of Obsidian fly into this collection of excellence. The Ark, combines lyrical mastery in unity with a musical score unlike any other. However, one of the aspects that truly sets this album apart from others is the unpredictability. The diversity of harmonies, instrumentation, and lyrics keeps the listener wondering what wonderful melody will waltz from the speakers next. Just when you think that you knew what was next, Williams adds a horn instrumentation to Mercury Sun. This reviewer is truly floored by the immeasurable quality that is Obsidian. Upbeat, frustrated, beautiful, dark, mysterious, and brilliant all at the same time, Thom William's Obsidian is a masterpiece unlike any other.
