Album Notes

The Haints are an old-time band, performing together in 2007 and playing festivals, concerts and camps since. The Haints are:
- Erynn Marshall (Victoria, BC / Galax, VA) - fiddle, vocals, uke
- Pharis Romero (Horsefly, BC / Cobble Hill, BC) – lead vocals, guitar
- Jason Romero (Arcata, CA / Cobble Hill, BC) – banjo, guitar, lead vocals, uke

Shout Monah, The Haints' first CD project, was released in May 2009. The band has a penchant for obscure tunes and songs that are seldom heard in today’s day and age - often stringband tunes from the era of early radio and before. From bluesy fiddle & banjo numbers and lyrical vocal duets to silver dagger ballads and old instrumentals, Shout Monah was a joy to record. We hope you enjoy the extensive liner notes and instrument photos that go with the album as well.

About The Haints....
The word “haint” is a southern expression for a spirit or ghost… a suitable title for a group who is dedicated to playing old-time music that traces it’s roots way back. These Haints have gleaned inspiration and repertoire from a wealth of archive recordings as well as first hand within living folk traditions. Sometimes we have learned tunes from favorite archive recordings and other times from older tradition bearers – fiddlers or singers who are no longer with us.

While striving to play this unique repertoire with care, spirit and detail we also add ourselves to the music and make it our own. The music never ceases to inspire us, engage our creativity, and challenge our musicality to rise to new levels. The music lives on, adapting and breathing in a living tradition of which we honored to be are a part. Hope you’ll relax, join us and listen for a spell.

This is a great Album!

I saw two of this group in Seattle. Jason and Pharis Remero. Pharis has a beautiful voice and Jason's voice banjo playing really transported me. I bought this album at the show and It turned out better than I expected. The Erynn's fiddle is lively and beautiful and makes this album one I know I'll treasure for years to come.
